http://images.warner.de/images-artists/WEA/Enya/89519/153792.jpg恩雅(Enya)原名Eithne Ni Bhraonain，生于1961年5月17日。童年在Gweedore 度过。Gweedore隶属爱尔兰西北部的Donegal郡，那片地区主要是爱尔兰语区。家中共有9个兄弟姐妹。除了排行中间的恩雅外，家中还有4个女孩和4个男孩。一家人在音乐方面获奖甚多，并闻名于爱尔兰传统音乐圈。
爱尔兰的音乐早已名闻世界,很多知名的艺人如U2、Van Morrison、Bob Geldof、Gary Morre、Chris De Burgh，到年轻一代的Pogues、Hothouse Fower、Eleanor McEvoy以及Sinead O'Connor等都是非常出色的Genuine Star,而走比较民族性、艺术性的音乐人就以恩雅最具代表了。在庞大的New age音乐洪流中，恩雅是其中的一支叫做Ambient Folk Music的，比较令人骄傲的是，她被公认为第一位树立环境民谣（就是Ambient Folk）的爱尔兰人。
